Sprained Ankle Wraps

Ankle trauma due to inversion or eversion sprain results in edema, instability and bruising.  It's important to properly support your ankle after injury, even during rehab.  Immediately after an ankle sprain occurs, elevate the ankle above heart level to keep the swelling down, compression the ankle with a wrap and apply ice.

After ankle sprain ensure you have adequate support with a sprained ankle wrap.  These are designed to provide continued compression to keep swelling down, as swelling is a big contributor to ankle pain after injury.  Another benefit of an ankle wrap over other types of ankle braces is that they are adjustable, so you can change the tightness as your swelling increases or decreases.

Make sure to get the right support level of ankle wrap for your sprained ankle.  They come in several different support levels from mild support to firm support, or even an ankle splint.  Ankle wraps that have straps for additional support help protect the ankle better than a single layer wrap.
