DeQuervain’s tendonitis is a condition along the thumb side of the wrist brought on by irritation and swelling of the tendons. The swelling of the tendons at the base of the thumb associated with pain, tenderness, and limited mobility when forming a fist, grasping, or turning the wrist.
Symptoms of DeQuervain’s tendonitis may include pain around the thumb side of the wrist, and may appear suddenly or can gradually cascade up the forearm. A fluid-filled cyst may also accompany swelling near the thumb region. A snapping or catching feeling may also be noticed, along with numbness or tingling from irritation of the nerve lying above the tendon sheath.
